let your light shine... As a visual storyteller, I create narrative through repurposing and collage to tell the story. I have a studio filled with more treasures than one can imagine. People give me things. They ‘gift’ me their castoffs, and each time this happens, i want to celebrate! I have this belief that when I use these castoffs in my work, whatever it may be, that some of the energy of the previous owner lives on in my work...which adds to the magic. Because I combine so many elements and details from a number of sources in one art piece, then those energies combine along with mine while I create it. I love that. Each object I use is mindfully placed. The wire is twisted ‘just so’. These pieces can be overworked easily just as a painting can be overworked. It’s about composition, balance, contrast, color, texture...and emotion. Many times, that’s what draws my viewers in- the emotion they feel when they slow down long enough to really see the details... My work with art and words has been evolving for several years. This includes my six word series, my TeaBagQuotes, the word magnet series and the Journal series (using pages from my journals). My sculptural figures I call “zkatrina couture”...they are fashion personalities which are whimsical, humorous, ‘over-the-top’ with style, and entertaining with all of the details revealed. Previous lines include a line of notecards and T-shirts called “catnaps...”, which I created from my original cat drawings, and “peas & carrots...”, textile art created from drawings on fabric, using machine-sewn thread layers to create depth and character. In addition, I was a freelance designer for Bath & Body Works, creating product bag prototypes, widening my creative boundaries. ...art itself is our language for expressing the understandings of the heart,
the body, & the spirit... ~ ursula k. le guin My work can be found at: Williams Gallery West 40982 Hwy. 41, Ste.3 Oakhurst, CA 93644 559-683-5551 www.galwest.com |
